What’s karma got to do with it, got to do with it (not a typo, Tina Turner is helping me write this blog post…haha, just kidding)? Thinking about Tina though, she did ask some good questions through her music. What’s love go to do with it, got to do with it? That’s another good one. Answer: When it comes to how we live our lives, our health and wellbeing, and the health and wellbeing of other beings and everything around us, it really does come down to love, karma and compassion (or Kompassion with a ‘K’ if you’re a Kardashian). The choices we make affect others and, in turn, come back to us in some way. Spiritually, there’s this idea of Karma. In religion, there’s the golden rule – do to others as you’d have them do to you. Scientifically, there’s the law of cause and effect. And IRL, a.k.a. in real life, there’s evidentiary support for this conclusion.
THE GOOD KARMA DIET
Victoria Moran’s publishers, Tarcher/Penguin, a division of Penguin Random House, were kind enough to send me a copy of The Good Karma Diet to review and we here at BCV are delighted to be part of her cyber book tour!

This is a vegan lifestyle book but there are over 30 yummy whole foods plant-based, healthiest vegan recipes included. The recipe for Vegan Soft Serve Ice Cream follows below. As a lifestyle book, good karma tips are sprinkled throughout the book along with some history and Victoria’s recommended reading and resources.
One of my favorite chapters is 21 Days to Good Health and Good Karma – for the next 21 days, follow nine simple instructions! I was inspired so I’m all in! Other chapter titles include ‘Put on a Happy Plate’, ‘High-Green, High-Raw, High-Energy, Eating’, ‘Skinny is Skinny, Healthy is Happy’, ‘Plant-Built Muscle’, ‘Animal Stories’, ‘Beauty, Fashion, and Good Karma Shopping’, ‘Food and Health and Price and Justice’.
Victoria credits food, her vegan lifestyle, with a focus on whole, plant-based, mostly raw eating, compassion in her heart, meditation, exercise, and the love around her (friends, family, colleagues, fellow vegan professionals) for her health and vitality. It’s a holistic approach and one that inspires, I mean, just look at her! And the beauty emanates from the inside out.
Show of hands, who doesn’t want to feel and look younger and more radiant than ever, to know that your way of living doesn’t involve harming other beings (whether you feel/know this consciously or unconsciously)? I rest my case.

RECIPE – Banana Soft Serve Ice Cream
4 ripe bananas, frozen
1 teaspoon vanilla extract, or 1⁄4 teaspoon vanilla bean powder
4 tablespoons nut milk (almond/Brazil) or water
For a chocolate version, add 1 tablespoon raw fair trade cacao powder
1 tablespoon unsulphured, unsweetened, dried coconut shreds
1 tablespoon chopped nuts (almonds, walnuts, hazelnuts, etc.)
1. Combine banana, vanilla, nut milk or water, and cacao if using, in a food processor or powerful blender with a tamper, until smooth and creamy like ice cream. Scrape the sides the food processor blender bowl so that all the banana is puréed.
2. When the mixture reaches the consistency of soft-serve ice cream, scoop into serving dishes and sprinkle, if you like, with coconut, nuts, or a bit more cacao powder.
Make a sundae with the addition of a drizzle of maple syrup or chocolate syrup (Cè Organics makes a delicious one with fair trade ingredients)
Drizzle with a nice brandy for a sophisticated grown-up dessert
Serves 2 to 4
