When you stroll through times square you are usually bombarded with billboards flashing the latest jeans, America’s favorite soft drinks, the stock market ticker tape, the latest news soundbites, etc., but this week a powerful message about veganism has taken over the crossroads of the world.
Be Fair Be Vegan is an amazing vegan marketing campaign happening in New York City through September 4th, 2016. Huge slideshow billboards, one in Times Square and the other at the Javits Center, depict sweet, beautiful images of animals accompanied by questions that draw the viewer in.
One image of three female cows appears with the question, “whose baby should die for your dairy?” The following slide states one simple fact, “male calves are killed as babies because they don’t produce milk.”
With so few words, this campaign says so much. It’s powerful and provocative without being graphic.
Be Fair Be Vegan Campaign – Times Square NYC
I was so excited to see the billboard in Times Square. It’s truly spectacular. I’ve been a NYC resident for 10+ years and yet I stood there like a tourist looking up in a daze, in awe, taking it all in. Most uncharacteristically not paying attention to my surroundings, I’m surprised I didn’t get pick pocketed or run over.
If you can get to the city, the sign is right above the Good Morning America billboard in Times Square. The exact location is 1500 Broadway which is the corner of 44th Street and Broadway (southeast side of the street…said like a true New Yorker).
Veganism is about Compassion
The purpose of the Be Fair Be Vegan campaign is to draw attention to the plight of animals, exposing the faces that illustrate the feelings of the animals we use for food, clothing, research and entertainment.
That’s a first step. In opening people’s hearts and minds, the ultimate purpose is that behaviors will change for the better, for the animals. The campaign calls for us to join together to elevate our collective consciousness and expand the circle of compassion, to be kind, to be vegan.
