Gene Baur, President and Co-Founder of Farm Sanctuary, set out on a three-week cross-country adventure in his 1974 Volkswagen van, the same van that launched the organization’s humble beginnings.
Perhaps one of the first vegan food trucks, he used the van to sell veggie hotdogs at Grateful Dead shows to raise money for what was at the time an all volunteer organization. This van was also the first safe haven for rescued farm animals like Hilda, their very first rescue.
While we all can’t physically be there on the open road with Gene, we can keep up with him and all his adventures. He’ll be sharing stories, photos, recipes and documenting his entire journey on the the Just Eats Tour website.
Gene spoke at the Veggie Pride parade in NYC the next day. He was there with the van and one of the volunteers joining him on this adventure, James Rodgers. We had a chance to speak with James about this once in a lifetime opportunity to hang out with the legendary Gene Baur on a three week vegan journey across vegan America.
