Eating Vegan

A vegan diet is one that is completely plant-based and contains no animal products whatsoever. Eating a healthy vegan diet is the best way to nourish your body and the most beneficial for the well being of humans, animals and the planet. It is outrageously delicious to boot!

Plant food? Doesn’t sound so great for those used to eating vegetables as a side dish. The rich and varied vegetables, fruits, grains, seeds, nuts, legumes, spices that can make up a vegan diet are sure to please.

If you’re not used to creating great, nutritious vegan meals, snacks and treats, you’re sure to be pleasantly surprised at how easy and yummy they really are. There are countless, delicious, easy to prepare and economical recipes.

How to Make Healthy Vegan Meals, Snacks and Desserts

How can you make satisfying, delectable vegan meals? It’s easy. Great vegan cookbooks abound and there are lots of recipes on the web including here at Vegan Pimp. Check out our blog and soon to come video cooking demos.

If you don’t feel like cooking, the number of vegan restaurants has been steadily rising. Non-vegan restaurants are even coming around to offering vegan fare, making it easier to be vegan away from home.

Also, there are ways to easily assemble meals from just a few ingredients. One or two store bought options, plus a can for beans or some frozen veggies or a piece of fruit can really do the trick in a pinch.

The Healthy Vegan

Consuming an abundance of green leafy vegetables is key as these offer a tremendous amount of nutrients. Other natural foods that provide required nutrients and therefore should be plentiful in a healthy vegan diet include legumes, whole grains, fruits, other vegetables, nuts and seeds.

The Junk Food Vegan

Yes, any diet can be unhealthy, even a vegan one. Potato chips, sodas, vegan cookies and candies are all vegan and have little to no nutritional value. Any type of highly processed food – this includes many of the faux meats on the market today – are not great for you if you consume too much. These foods should be eaten in moderation. While meat, dairy and eggs do have nutritional value (i.e. protein, calcium), a better source of those nutrients can be found in plant foods. Consuming animal foods comes along with disease-causing substances like hormones, bacteria as well as trans fats and cholesterol. Therefore it’s better to get your nutrients from plant sources.
