Sprouters and Sprouting

Sprouting is a great way to get lots of nutrients plus a tasty, crunchy addition to any vegan meal. Add sprouts to salads, entrees or eat them on their own. Growing sprouts yourself is a terrific way to incorporate sprouts into your daily vegan diet.

Hemp bags are another alternative way to sprout. Hemp sprout bags are the sprout solution for anyone with a small kitchen, like us Big City Vegans, who perhaps barely have enough counter space in their kitchen to hold a cup. The beauty of using a hemp sprout bag is that you can hang it from a cabinet knob or anywhere else. Cared for properly, hemp bags will never mold or mildew.

For more advanced sprouting, there are other devices. These will be the best way to sprout seeds, as shown in the video below.

We met Steve Meyerowitz, also known as Sprout Man, at the New Life Expo in New York City. Here, Steve demonstrates his Sproutman’s Automatic Sprouter (which uses only 4 watts of energy every hour) – where that day he was using the sprouter to sprout alfalfa and radish.
