Portland Oregon is super vegan friendly. It’s a little slice of vegan heaven on earth. As such, of course it makes perfect sense that there would be a fitness facility with an all vegan approach to strength training and physical fitness. We found that at PlantFit Training Studio in Portland while attending the Vida Vegan Con 2013 vegan bloggers conference.
Now I would have been completely clueless had it not been for Miss Christy Morgan, aka The Blissful Chef. You can check out her blog and cookbook, Blissful Bites, for more inspiration. Not only did she reach out to PlantFit to organize this awesome group class, she gave me the wake up text that got my sorry butt out of bed at 6:30am. On top of that, she was kind enough to film this interview with PlantFit Coach & Owner, Ed Bauer and Coach Jason Morris. Thank you Christy!
In this interview, Ed and Jason talked about PlantFit, why Portland, their approach to vegan strength and conditioning, healthy eating for a healthy fit lifestyle and how to get the nourishment needed to get through grueling workouts. They talk specific foods and they also shared their favorite places to go out to eat in Portland.
When we talked where to go to get healthy vegan fare and where to go to get your vegan junk food (aka, your seitan ribs, daiya cheese pizza, cupcakes & donuts, etc), I like what Ed said, “A concept with healthy nutrition is it’s not about all or nothing but it’s about what you do most of the time.”
Ed’s and Jason’s restaurants and eateries topping the list of places to go include Canteen, Blossoming Lotus and Prasad for healthy vegan eats. Some of their favorite vegan junk food fare can be found at Los Gorditos, Portobello and the most certainly not-to-be-missed Homegrown Smoker food cart.
It wasn’t just me, a bunch of Vida Vegan Con goers showed up to play. Here we are, feeling good after our workout, ready for a green juice and some sustenance.
Crossed the Hawthorne Bridge to get to PlantFit with new friends Ashley and Dawn. Enjoying the view.
Our awesome workout routine for the day.
Has anyone else visited Portland, Oregon or are you lucky enough to live there in this vegan paradise? What are some of your favorite places to go? Fellow Vida Vegan Con attendees, what did you love?
